IR sauna penetrates the skin deeper than radiant sauna using safe, low frequency infrared lamps. Therefore, the temperature inside the sauna is lower. It ranges from 130-150F instead of 180-200F. The heat on the skin and the air that you breathe is more tolerable while at the same time a greater amount of heat is penetrating the body which increases circulation. Sessions last from 20-30 minutes and studies have shown that your health status can be improved in as little as twice a week for 4 weeks.

Prior to having a massage, IR prepares the body via warming and relaxing skeletal muscles and improving tendon and ligament elasticity. Many spas will have their clients prepare for a massage by soaking in a Jacuzzi for 30 minutes prior to receiving body work. The idea is the same, warming and relaxing the skeletal muscles improves the outcome of the massage.

If you are not a client/patient of Sound Mind Body Healing Institute or one of the affiliated practitioners and you would like to use the sauna, we can provide a health screening for you. Alternatively, you can submit a note from your doctor referring you for IR treatment.
Initial time and temperature in the sauna may be as little as 5 minutes at 100℉ depending on person’s health status. Time and temperature will gradually increase as you are able. This process should not be rushed.
